Janet Osimo, Psy.D
I have worked with individuals during their life transitions including college students, the LGBTQ community, Seniors and their care givers, and those struggling with grief including those who have lost a loved one by suicide. Despite how stuck or overwhelmed one may feel, or dealing with circumstances an individual is dealt, I believe an individual’s capacity to pursue and find satisfaction and well-being are possible across the lifespan. Working with others during the most challenging moments of life is a sacred journey.
How can I help?
Areas of Treatment
Psychotherapy
Some common reasons people seek therapy is to find help in managing stress and anxiety, address questions about relationships and feelings of disconnectedness, or they have a desire to address unresolved issues. They may feel stuck in certain feelings, be in a rut or know they need a change but don’t know how to get there.
Therapy can help improve mental health, gain understanding and change unhelpful behaviors, increase self-awareness and emotional understanding, improve communication in relationships, help to learn how to cope with stress, life changes and support personal growth.
If you would like to see if therapy might be of help, you can schedule a free 15 minute consultation.
Anxiety and Depression
Therapy can be effective for individuals dealing with anxiety and depression by exploring the underlying causes. Understanding the root of distress can lead to self-understanding and healing. Therapy can offer tools and strategies to manage emotions that reduce the intensity of
anxiety and depression.
Grief
When we suffer from grief or loss, there is a fundamental desire to stop the pain, question our grieving and ask, “When will it end? Will I feel happy again?” Although grief and loss are universal experiences, it’s often a lonely process. Grief takes on many dimensions especially if we have suffered multiple losses in our life. Coping with the pain of loss and moving through it can feel daunting. Therapy can help you process and move through the loss, reduce feelings of
isolation and find a way to live out your future.
Pet Loss
The loss of a beloved pet can bring profound sadness. Therapy offers a supportive environment to acknowledge this grief, honor the bond you shared, and begin the healing process.
Life Transitions
Life transitions, whether expected or sudden, can be challenging. Therapy helps you adapt to change, explore new possibilities, and build resilience, enabling you to navigate these shifts with greater ease and confidence.
Women’s Issues
Women face a host of unique issues that are impacted by family roles, fertility, menopause motherhood, care giving , relationships and social expectations at home and in the workplace. Therapy provides a supportive environment to explore your experience and gain clarity about
your feelings, coping strategies and goals.
Seniors and Caregivers
Supporting seniors and their caregivers requires understanding the unique challenges of aging and caregiving. Therapy offers tools to manage stress, foster connections, and improve the quality of life for both seniors and caregivers.
Parents of College Students
Parenting college students brings a unique set of challenges, from navigating newfound independence to managing concerns for your child’s well-being. Therapy helps parents adjust to this new phase, fostering healthy communication and relationships.
My Approach & Philosophy
Our first meeting I’ll want to talk about your goals, experience with therapy and family information. After 3-4 sessions will be a good time to check in about how we are working together. I don’t tend to assign homework but work collaboratively on things to bring your attention to during our time between sessions. I work best with clients who have some self-awareness of growth areas they would like to work toward.
My approach comes from my study of neuroscience and meditation that shows the ability for the brain (and therefore we as individuals) to adapt from previous patterns. Psychotherapy has been shown to play a key role, with effort and intentional focus. I like to use multiple approaches that may include mindfulness practice, working with your strengths, specific coping strategies and increasing self-knowledge and appreciation.
